Many people like to say that Muslims don’t talk about how bad terrorists are or whether or not they truly believe in Democracy and freedom. The truth is they do, but when they do they are ridiculed, criticized and in James Yee’s case charged with treason, locked in isolatory and tourchered with sensory deprivation. Yet after being treated like this he says he is now even more firmly committed to American values,
I would learn that religion was actually being used as a weapon against these prisoners to break them and because each and every one of them was a Muslim, that was something that went against the fundamental American value of religious freedom.
I mean, we heard about the Qurans being desecrated down in Guantanamo. That was happening when I was there. They were being thrown on the ground, stamped on, kicked across the room.
I would say that I’m even more patriotic today and that’s because I’m spending more time, and engaged even further, in doing what’s best for my country promoting these certain values
I wonder how much coverage this will get, the media jumped at the chance to label this man a terrorist back in the day. They’ve smeared this man and his faith because that gets them the ratings, but when he is given an honorable discharge, resolved to make society a better place and has declared he is even more patriotic as a result of his ill treatment it will barely register on the radar.
Had he come out of this shouting ‘death to the infidels’ there would be no shortage of coverage.
